Bernard Teyssèdre, Archeologist of the Imagination
Exhibition at the galerie Michel Journiac, École des Arts de la Sorbonne
This exhibition offers an opportunity to rediscover Bernard Teyssèdre (1930-2021), an iconic figure in the French academic and artistic scene for half a century. Punctuated by readings of his writings, the exhibition highlights a lesser-known aspect of his work—his art practice.
From writings outside of the book to experiments in “socio-critical” art, this event focuses on the fertile period between 1968 and 1976. Among the show's highlights:
“La Mort-Rut” (or “The Death-Rut”, 12-meter screen printed scroll)
“La mer à Prague” (or “The Sea in Prague”, texts on metal plates)
“L’entre-deux questions” (or “The between-two questions”, a “cultural altarpiece” as the artist put it)
“La mort des autres” (or “The death of others,” a collaborative project of sociological art)
“Projet d’aménagement de la tour Eiffel en centre de rééducation pour les déviants socio-politiques” (or “Project to Convert the Eiffel Tower into a Rehabilitation Center for Socio-Political Deviants”).
"Le corps / S.O.S. SS / Le corps" (or "The Body / S.O.S. SS / The Body") multimedia poem, 1971-1974.
Philosopher, writer, and co-founder of the Department of Arts and Art Sciences at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (now the School of Arts of the Sorbonne), Bernard Teyssèdre’s work spans multiple fields, ranging from literary and artistic creation to aesthetic theory and art history.
Curators : Karen O’Rourke & Yann Toma.
